Artist’s Statement
My paintings suggest abstracted landscapes and spaces, though they are not created from direct observation. Each work develops through layered shapes, color, and movement until an image begins to evoke a memory, atmosphere, or emotional familiarity.
Working primarily in watercolor and gouache, I have recently begun incorporating collage elements, including fragments of my own photographs and cut sections of older paintings, into the compositions. Introducing seemingly unrelated forms creates moments of disruption that open new possibilities within the painting.
I am interested in forms that resist fixed definition — shapes that blur into one another, retain traces of their origins, and gradually evolve through their relationships with surrounding elements. The work reflects my fascination with change, evolution and the perception of boundaries, as well as my experience as an immigrant, and the way layered histories and differences can create something more complex and beautiful than what existed before.
